Business and Office Technology
The field of Business and Office Technology covers all aspects of training workers for today’s offices and specifically prepares Alaskans as an Accounting Specialist, Administrative Assistant, or Medical Administrative Assistant.
AVTEC graduates are employed in private, state, and federal offices; tribal organizations; and in the health, construction, and tourism industries. Within the Business and Office Technology program, students will choose one of the following areas of study.

Requirements
Information Technology Requirements
Students are required to bring a laptop or notebook and have basic computer skills necessary for accessing the internet and AVTEC Learning Management System.
Employment Requirements
- Good eyesight
- Finger coordination
- The ability to sit for one to two hours

Industry Certifications
University of Alaska Transcript
Business and Office Technology graduates may earn up to 25 credits on their University of Alaska transcript while in attendance at AVTEC. These credits can be directly applied to an Applied Business Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree at the UAF campus.
In addition to the AVTEC program certificate, students can prepare for and earn the following industry certifications:
- Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC3)
- Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS): Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access
- Intuit Certified QuickBooks User
- National Health Career Association (NHA): Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA), Certified Electronic Health Record Specialist (CEHRS)
