Math, Study Skills, and Tutoring

AVTEC offers math classes specifically designed to align with training programs and help students apply the math they learn to real-life work experiences. The applied math classes are included as part of the training program and traditionally build from reviewing basic skills to specific math used in a particular trade.

The focus is on helping students learn, understand, and practice necessary math skills to be successful in their chosen career.

Study Skills and Tutoring

An evening tutor provides additional academic support services to students after training, outside of regular class hours. This instructor works with students who need extra help understanding certain concepts or completing homework and assignments in an individualized, supervised, and structured environment.

The evening tutor may work one-on-one or in small groups with students using a variety of teaching methods and materials to aid in student success. All students are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Study Skills Instruction

The evening tutor also provides study skills instruction which includes teaching students’ techniques and strategies to help them effectively plan, organize, and manage their time while studying. This instruction is tailored to the student’s needs and subject area.

When available, the student tutoring program offers students the opportunity to receive individualized peer tutoring specific to the current technical area of their training.
